a change is among us

well Fall has begun and is full of new things! it's funny how the things i never noticed as a child seem strangely obvious: just the smell of the air, the briskness of it, and how quickly the leaves change color. i often sit out on our porch holding our youngest daughter and just look in awe at the changes taking place. it's not that it didn't happen when i was younger, but that i didn't appreciate it or stop to notice it. i remember when Chase, now almost 9, was a toddler. we were walking to the library and he stopped to look at a tree and touch its bark. i remember thinking, "let's go the library closes soon." but i then realized that he has never touched bark and didn't even know what it was called or why it was there. what a teachable moment for him and for me. he got his fill of information about the mysterious covering and i learned to appreciate the things i once passed by in an instant...in a hurry.

well i'll let the seasons change...and so will I.
